New statistics show that at least one staffy or cross staffy is put to sleep every hour in the UK and 40% of staffy types are put to sleep before their 4th birthday. These statistics make shocking reading and something needs to be done for these dogs. Rescue centres are overflowing with bull breed type dogs, they are harder to rehome since they have recieved negative press in recent years and they now apparantly make up over 50% of the 'waiting to be admitted' list at Freshfields Animal Rescue. In an attempt to help these dogs local animal charities have got together and created Bull Breed Welfare. The focus of this initiative is to offer discount neutering and encouraging people not to add to the problem of so many unwanted bull breed dogs. By neutering bull breeds we are reducing the population of them and helping to stop their suffering so less will be put to sleep as unwanted pets. Many vets around Merseyside will be taking part in offering this discount for the month of July. Freshfields Animal Rescue will be coordinating booking dogs into the vets for neutering, any dog neutered or registered with the vet for neutering during July will be eligable for the discount on offer. As well as neutering, we would like to show people that bull breeds like any other breed are lovely dogs, make wonderful companions and don't deserve the negative attention they have received in recent years.
As part of BBW there will be 2 park events at the end of June.
Sunday 24/06/2012, 11-4, North Park, Bootle
Saturday 30/06/2012, 11-4, Marian Gardens, Netherton
